By Joan. I have lived in Barcelona for 16 years and Park Guell is the Gaudi site I like best, because it is the only one where the city itself is part of what you are looking at. The thing worth knowing before anything else is that half of it is free and the half you came for is not.
About Park Guell
The short version. The Monumental Zone is the ticketed part, and that is where the mosaic salamander, the serpentine bench and the gingerbread gatehouses are. Everything around it is open park, free, and public since 1926. Tickets carry a fixed entry time and sell out days in advance in high season, so this is one to settle before the trip and not on the morning. On timing there is no winning hour, only a trade, earlier means fewer people and the last slots of the day mean better light. Pick whichever one bothers you less. The final stretch up is a real hill, and I take it slowly.
