By Joan. The Picasso Museum is the one big museum here I would still recommend to somebody who says they do not like museums, because it is about a young man learning his job and not about a genius arriving fully formed. The five palaces it lives in are half the reason to go.
About Picasso Museum
El Born holds the most complete collection of Picasso's early work in the world, spread through five adjoining medieval palaces. Over 4,200 pieces follow his formative years in Barcelona, and the Las Meninas series, where he takes Velazquez apart canvas by canvas, is the room people remember. Entry is free on Thursday afternoons from 16 to 20h and on the first Sunday of each month, which is also exactly when the queue is at its worst, so free is not automatically the better deal when you are in the city for two days. On a paid day, book ahead.
